Ok, here's a new one on me. This came from a burnt house and it's got me scratching my head.... Someone took this 1936 D Buffalo, and cut it in half. Then they cut a groove all the way around the rim and tied the halves back together with wire.... I've never seen anything quite like it. They must have had one heck of a fine saw blade too!

If it is made of wood that is one heck of a metal detector!

Why? Mine can pick up that little piece of wire holding it together. ;) LOL

Hmmm, interesting find. I found a quarter once drilled with 4 holes than a wire threaded thru up and over pattern. Could never find out what the heck this guy was trying to achieve, yours I personally think beginning of a 2 piece love token never finished. Congratulations.

That is really a mystery , I don't think it's a trick coin - the wire is iron - not conducive to springing back - the groove around the edge is not
going to allow for that kind of movement either , especially with the twist where the ends meet . I'd be curious to know if saw marks from
a tiny jewelers saw are visible on the edges of the cut - a good loupe could determine this , then at least we'd know how it was done .

I think it would be too obvious to be a trick coin even if it worked

I agree, its a trick coin... Plus, if it was not it would be a break not a cut. Cut lines are strait, that is a broken line but... Its not broken its a trick coin.
Keep @ it and HH !!
