I decided to fish this morning and go into work late. I took my boat out for the first time in months. I decided out of the blue one day that my boat need some cleaning and a patch of gelcoat sprayed over a bad spot. I decided it would take me about a weekend to knock this project out on my own. Two months later, I finished this weekender. Before and after pics of the project.

Not the best job, but much better than before! Any way, I went out today and docked at a place that I normally find a few artifacts. The spot is actually my avatar pic. I only looked a couple of minutes because water levels are high and yield little shore line. I found this interesting little piece. It looks like a river pebble that has been used for some odd job. Any ideas on the functionality of this piece. Is it simply a figment? I have lots of figments, so it's possible. It just looks like the scaring on this piece is far to uniformed to be natural.

Wrong after pic of the boat! Lol!

pic #5 shows the notches very good. Looks altered to me and not natural. Thats a neat find but I dont know the reason for the notches or what it would of been used for other than a decoration piece.

Nice find but I am clueless the boat looks great !!!!

My thoughts exactly Rock. Unfinished pendant. Looks like they were making notches around the edges, like on this bone pendant.

This piece was found waaaayy upstream on the same river that I was on today. I compare this bone piece to the controversial turtle pipe that was posted recently. I know I found it, regardless of what anyone thinks. However, I can prove nothing about its authenticity.

Thanks bro. I retired from gelcoat work all together. Sprayed one patch 4 times. Lol! I learned a lot! Main thing I learned is I'm no painter. Lol!

Yeah I remember when you posted that one last yr. Strange looking thing. It would be hard to determine the maker of that piece.

If you were closer I'd shoot it for ya lol

Yep. I hardly ever show it to people anymore. I always end up pissed at what people say about it. Every one says its a souvenir, sold in gift shops. Yet, no one has been able to find a piece in a gift shop that is remotely close to it. The notches in the piece I found today look close to the edge work on the bone. Same tribe occupied the whole river that both were found on. I'm feeling a bit better about my bone pendant. I wish I could dig along the river banks, but burial grounds are all over and I can't afford a grave robbing charge. That looks pretty bad on the record.

I was close to pulling it to TN. so Triton could respray it. I got it where I'm happy with it. It's a 1997 model Tr-21. It shouldn't look like it came off the show room. I sprayed it with auto clear about 4 years ago and had to sand and strip that off with a razor blade. Fools advice, never spray over gel with auto clear. I'm glad I didn't try to spray more than a patch! Sanded it off 3 times. 4th time is the charm!

I too believe it has been altered by man, a gorget or pendant was usually drilled first before tally marks were put on it. I`m thinking maybe something to mark pottery before its fired? Either dragging it or rolling in a punctate design. Look at it under 10x magnification and see if they left any shaping striations.

Yes that would of been a lot of work stripping the whole boat one day ill have a bass boat like that nice !!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. What do I use to magnify? A simple eye glass or something more powerful? If something more powerful, what is the price of a decent microscope? I really need to buy one. Thanks again!!

Stripping was a SOB, but I got it done. Wet sanding and razor blades do the trick. It's still a tedious job. I used a pressure washer to strip some, but got into the flake.

That's where I had to spray the patch. I will send you a few pics of my work. It's noticeable but not as noticeable as I thought for. I sanded it down to pure glass, and built it up. I had a friend supervise my last spray. This hull is the fastest Triton has ever made. That's why I do not sell the boat .

Lol I remember as a kid working in my dads body shop stripping a Monte Carlo with a razor blade it does work great in the right situation lol I would like to get a boat I didn't have to work on everytime I took it out lol

A good 10x magnifying glass will work but I use a 10x lighted loup which you can buy on ebay for around $20. I also use a 10x to 30x microscope $200 to $300 but seldom do you need over 10x. If vou do get a microscope, get a lighted binocular model.

I know what you mean. I got a boat in hopes of becoming a great bass fisherman. I became a jack leg mechanic instead. I think she is ready now. I can become a fisherman!! Finally!

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been looking at microscopes but have no clue what I need. Some of those things are pricy!!

So what do you feel is the white piece rege? And who made it?
