On the 29th (yesterday) I started another road trip. I will ultimately get to WI to visit brothers, sisters, and cousins. I will then head to NY state to visit my good buddy Terry (nice name!) Soloman. I will visit others on the way back.

For much of the trip I will take "back roads".

Going slow.

I spent the first night in Flagstaff, AZ and visited my former neighbor, John Morris. He is now in an assisted living home.
On the way there, I found Crested Cactus number TWENTY ONE for me! It is about 150 meters north of the APACHE SKY CASINO entrance on Why 77.

Along the hwy guard rail I saw my first rattlesnake of the year. A road kill
attachment.php

Along hwy 77 is several Indian reservations, including Apache and Navajo.

Then on to the DREADED SALT RIVER CANYON!

After the harrowing plunge into then out of THE CANYON, I headed west on 89A towards the Grand Canyon north rim.

Just before crossing the Colorado River, north of the Grand Canyon, I stopped at on of those markets that are all along the hwy in the Indian reservations.

I'd rather spend my money at the little "mom and pop" stands than the great big tourist stops.

Here is a pic of the Vermillion Cliffs..... as close as I'm going to get to the north rim.

And now I'm stopped for the night north of Cedar City, UT. I often stay at Love's truck stops. (just cut and paste this pic for whenever I stop at a Loves.... they're all the same!)

There you are! My first two days on the road.
Check this post daily for updates!! ╦╦C

Great to see you're on the road again Terry.:hello:

Nice of you for the nod.

Oh how the memory bank is turning now.

We got married in Sedona and really loved that area.
Loved the 89A, saw Jarome then headed over through some high country to Vegas.
All the Aspens were yellow, all the Sheep were down playing for the rut.

Woooo hoooo road trip !! Nice !!

Have a great time.
Be safe on your travels.
Wisconsin ehh, go on another adventure and take the SS Badger across Lake Michigan to Ludington.
Take US10 East until you hit I-75 figure out on your maps for Port Huron.
Cross the Blue water bridge into Canada or just go see it.
I'd recommend the Huron circle tour, but that's best in the Fall!

God speed!

Ps when you pass my place on US10..honk lol

You're doing nicely Terry. Should have grabbed that snake rattle for a keepsake. I have a couple from Florida.

You are entirely right, Pepper, the local roads are the best. The interstates get you from point A to point B. By traveling the back roads, a person gets to see all the things between A and B! When time is not a factor, the back roads are the best. A VERY pretty town, La Verkin, UT. Very green valley just before Cedar City. Instead of going north from CC to Draper, UT, the candy store, I will first go east to get back on US89. I will take that up all the way into Yellowstone Park, if the dry conditions haven't closed the park. Must get back onto Int 15 for a short to get MY CANDY in Draper (Salt Lake City). ╦╦C

Not to be.... someone beat me to it! ╦╦C

Great country. Those are called 'Blue Highways', cause on the map the secondary roads would be in the color blue.

Went back to US 89 today (7-1-21) and headed north from Cedar City, UT.
Just north of Panguitch, UT, is the childhood home of "Butch Cassidy" Leroy Parker.

The home is in Circle Valley just south of (you guessed it) Circleville, UT.

Further north on US 89 is some BEAUTIFUL canyon scenery along the Vernier River.
I took these shots just south of Int 70.

North of Hwy 70, again on US 89, is the little tiny town of Manthi, UT with a BIG church. Awesome!

180 miles is all I'll do today. I'm stopped for the night in Ephraim, UT. Walmart. ╦╦C

Terry Congratulations on your beautiful journey..Just a thought if you come thru NY try to go the Rhinebeck aerodrome I think they have rides in the WW1 bi planes

We still can't do Canada without a two week quarantine. My son in law's father died and he couldn't go to the funeral due to that.

I will get CLOSE to NY state but I will have Terry come out to the SE corner of PA to meet me. NY will not let me carry so they are no longer part of my itinerary. ╦╦C

Cool looking trip so far, TerryC! Be safe and keep posting! Makes me wish I was taking a long motorcycle trip this year, but (sigh) not to be this year. Look forward to more posts! :icon_thumleft:

Your check engine light is on. Hope you don't break down before your final destination. Cool trip though.

Two reasons for the engine light. I used up the windshield washer fluid and burned up the motor, I think, and the other has something to do with the (diesel) glow plugs.... a non-issue right now in warm weather. I can live with both until I sit still for awhile. ╦╦C

Rodeo Tonight! In Mt. Pleasant, UT (7-2-21). Most of the locals already have the curbsides roped off and lawn chairs set up for the parade that will precede the event. And it's only 8:00 AM!

Mt. P also has a drive-in theater.

My dad had a station wagon and he would park backwards and open the rear gate for us kids. I don't ever remember staying awake long enough for the second feature!

And then on to my favorite CANDY STORE!

I am posting this from Logan, UT because I will soon climb into the mountains along US 89 into Idaho and most certainly will not have internet tonight. ╦╦C
