I thought for sure my season was done, but for some reason the farmer had still not shown up at my last site as expected, so I got one more opportunity over the weekend. This is the site where I previously dug 2 Va buttons, plus the one Dan snagged, as well as a few other CW period buttons and coins. I decided to do a bit of gridding in one area, and was not finding much other than a bunch of modern bullets. But every once in a while a keeper would show up. Then about 50 ft from where Dan dug his button last time I pulled out a beat up Va coat with the back missing. But that was fine with me. I text'd a pic to Dan who was hunting one of his local sites at that time, and soon he returned the favor with a pic of a colonial hoe he had just pulled from a small, shallow pit. Then not long after, and about 75 ft away, I was dumbfounded when yet another Va button appeared. And this one was in poor shape too but it still counted. That makes 5 Va buttons from this one small site. Then a short time later Dan matches my find again with another of his own - that cool Rev War era sling buckle he recently posted. That was a lot of fun playing text-tag like that from the field, and I'm glad both of us were able to put some relics in our pouches even though the logistics that day forced both of us to stay close to home. Guess I'd better not make any mention of this being my last hunt like I did earlier for fear of looking stupid yet again.

It's all good when you're making finds like those! Congrats!

Bill, you ol hound dog you, you sniffed out some more goodies after all.
It just goes to show you it ain't over till the fat lady sings. That FE cent looks mighty fine as does the VA buttons, congrats.

Nice stuff Bill - the season is never over. I seem to recall a day two idiots went into the woods in shorts with no bug spray during the heat of the summer........some people just don't think HA

Please don't remind me of the worst day of my life .....

great finds!!

Screwy weather like we've been experiencing can certainly push planting either way, gotta keep an eye out for opportunities like the one you jumped on. You made it count too, nice finds.

There are definitely some oddities going on with farming around here this spring. Much of the winter wheat crop did not start its growth spurt until very late due to the cold ground. As a result, it will not be able to mature before the follow-up crop needs to be planted. So many farmers are killing it off now so there will still be time for the new crops to grow. That could open up some new spots, but I think I'd prefer to just wait for the fall. If you can't quickly get into a new site and hunt it thoroughly you're taking a chance on permission being revoked when you come back in the fall. That happens more frequently than you might think when property owners start talking to other family members. That's why my golden rule of detecting is to not knock on a door unless you're prepared to hunt the heck out of it that first day as you never know what might happen after that. Been there .... done that .... multiple times.

Nice buttons Bill. I bet you got another hunt in you yet. Looking forward to the next set of finds.

who knows the square with dot in the middle and traingle with the middle period is etched and put together a rock.

Well, I will forgive you for saying the last time was your last hunt.

The Eagle cent is a really cool find. It ranks up there with a trime in my book.

That Flying Eagle is still on my wish list, oh and anything remotely Civil War related!
Killer!

Great finds Bill. That turned out to be a really productive site and hopefully you squeeze one more day in and find anther VA button. Congrats!

Ha! I knew you weren't done yet :laughing7:

How can you even say "looking stupid" look at those finds! Who cares the farmer can't schedule his weather correctly, he needs to turn up the thermostat I recon?

Nice work with the VA buttons. You know, I was after a VA button for five years while I was living and digging in VA. I brought a friend back to dig with me one trip there and he dug one right in front of me! Crazy how that happens. :D One day... :)
