Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Weather was fair, in the 40's. Two day's to get some serious diggin' enjoyment in the South Jersey pines and some old grown up fields. :laughing7: I stumbled upon this locale month's ago but I was sidetracked with work and the most dreaded thing of all " the honey do list " .

Pssst this place is loaded with iron and mounds of brick but it is a primo location that has gave up a substantial amount of relics , coins and assorted goodies from circa 1760- 1830's .

Past weekend finds from a clearing near the mill site . Betcha didn't see that one coming Q .:cool: This hunt goes out to Quindy of the Tenn. Trio , who has been an avid follower of the Old Mill Hunts .

"All " discoveries found on private property with owner permission .1830 Mother Mary medallion , two pewter regt buttons , One toast , One of the Best I have ever dug. Minimum edge chips , # two US Infantry Regiment 1798-1802 , from the same site .

My first one was a rev war 13th regt without the US border , sold for 850. US dollars , it was sealed up with a diluted Elmers glue coating.

A pewter field dug button would be ruined by the fertilizers .

Lot of buttons and relics . Can't wait to get back . Warning : picture heavy !

Thanks for checking in ,

Snow storm happining as I post this thread , why do they even bother that freakin ground hog :tongue3:

Wow Dawg! That mill site is really giving it up! The hits keep comin'. Button belongs in NJ historical society display or museum...it's that good!!

I, too, vote banner for that button. Amazing!!!

Dawg, it just makes sense that you look for relics & coins where money was exchanged and people congregated for many different decades to get their grain ground and bought flour, meal, etc. If I lived there, that's where I would hunt. You have had great luck at those sites. Our mill sites here were mostly located on small streams and short lived. HH, Q.

Hi Q , Each dirt road from the mill or perhaps mills center leads to a new spot . Lake fed stream site's , near early stage roads , maybe the site of the first Early American outdoor flea market , :dontknow: OR a " forgotten town " . Take a guess .

Smaller State , with many settlers traveling coastal regions from Philadelphia is the difference between Tenn and this part of Jersey . Based on my finds I figure , 70 years of milling operation . As long as it 's giving , I'll be found here . Might have to send a search party out to retrieve my bones :tongue3:

Good Day :)

Mike

You have been digging with a vengeance DAWG!!! That US 13th Regiment button is an awesome find :notworthy: What's up with that cufflink - looks like it has a figure of a man, but you didn't provide a good close-up? Do you know what type of gun that iron butt plate came from?

That is an AMAZIN piece of HISTORY DAWG!!!!!!!! You have my vote for banner bud... CONGRATS... HH

Glad you hit the sweet spot. The NJ soil was very kind to your banner find. Great piece of history Dawg, congrats. Arty

Hi & Thanks Steve , Here are a few closeups . Under magnification the standing figure looks like a drummer boy or a stripper . I am going with an earlier Springfield than this 1842 US engraved on top , dug last year . Latest example has 2 1/4 " long screws that are still intact .

Thanks James ,

THREE , loyal years , on Today's Finds , in my humble opinion ," I never saw a finer pewter regt button " , I never saw an early US 13 Regt . , I had the pleasure to see many more GW buttons posted here than 1798-1802 US regt.s
...... to most it is just a button , I say , show me your regt find .
I am wowed by gold coins too , many rev war buttons are more worthy of recognition but even those are overlooked , GW's have been passed over for undisclosed reasons , Glad I found one .
To those who like it and had the heart to say so , I send them Good Wishes .
