Hi all,
I picked up this oil painting from a local thrift store and I am trying to nail down the artist. I think it might be George Lawrence Nelson. I have seen him sign G. L. NELSON, and G. NELSON. I also read he spent 2 years at an art school in Paris. His signature also have a long tail on the S.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
-Nick

Yes, there are examples of
G.L. NELSON
G. NELSON
and
George Lawrence Nelson written in cursive. I have not found an exact match on the one I have if it is from him.

That is definitely a beautiful looking painting Nick.

Personally, I'd like to see a pic of the back of the canvas. If you can't I.D. the artist, then we need to determine approximately when it was painted and the period/location of the streetscape. These details will all help to give you a better idea of potentially when the artist was actively working.

It is obviously in Paris France, so the time line is post-1889. Stylistically it looks to be from the 1960s or 70s. :icon_scratch:

Thanks Dave, I couldn't pass it up for 17 bucks. Here is maybe a better picture and one of the back of the canvas

Thanks for the follow up pics Nick. :thumbsup:The staples in the frame tell me your painting is relatively modern, so a 20 year date range of 1960 - 80 isn't out of the question. If you were to invest in a frame that was more complimentary to the painting, I think you'd have a great looking piece.

I found this Beethoven Bust yesterday online in Toronto for $25, I'm picking it up this morning. Now I'm just debating on how to clean it up to make is more displayable. :icon_scratch: It's 12" tall x 6" wide.
