OK, you guys said I'd need a point to be able to date this stuff so what do you think

Also, who may have made it? In central florida area I'm more concerned with the base on the left. Im guessing its Bolen?
thanks

I know central Florida patina..and that does look old.
Given The amount of patina and wear I can't see if it was serrated at all.. but with that rounded base and its thickness I'd be thinking Boggy Branch Instead of Bolen... maybe Bolen though there is 5 subtypes with alot of variation within them
Looking forward to you finding a whole one..your close.

Thanks! Im looking forward to it also :D

Try soaking the 2 in mineral oil for a day or so and see if the color changes and shows some flaking. It wont hurt it any and it will go back to the normal in a couple of days. Then take a pic of them again and post it maybe we can determine the age by the flaking if it shows any.

It will change..the white patina will become clear so you can see the material below it.
It could take weeks to go back but it will....slowly.

I did it to a broken Putnam once.
It's the white base on the bottom.. nevermind the black piece on top.. that was just me being funny.

thats interesting. I have them soaking now. the rock on the right, I wasn't sure was anything but it looked very suspicious and I can see whitish chert towards the tip, the rest is pretty crusty

wow. that is amazing i wasn't aware of this technique. it looks totally different. what is happening here?stuff 090.webp

LOL.
Careful on other types of patina.
It only works on the white calcium stuff.
It can make other stuff look like mud.

U might want to check out the are where the boggy branch is found...def not a boggy. I would say a duval or a wide notchd bolen.

Definitely check out where they come from.
These three "of Sons'" came from North Central Florida.

Ok Ive been doing some searching for range maps and cant find much, and wouldn't know if it was accurate even if I did. can someone point me to a good range map THAT YOU GUYS think is accurate?

Just dont soak types like quartz , quartzite or slate types.

It's looking more Bolen isn't it.
It looks pretty ground in the notches and I don't see any sign of serrations.
Also never seen a Duval with notches that expanded.

a duval will be thick in the middle they have a rhomboid shape, a bulbous base, that point is resembling more of a woodland/duval/jackson than a bolen. looks like a coastalplains type chert which will lean towards duval also.....Hillsborough County personal dug Bolen ...KILLER
