Found this piece of jewelry at the beach a few days ago. It was near the surf about 8-inches down.

The copper setting is very fragile. Is it old?

I think it is an onyx.

yes onyx, yes old --looks like a copper based gilted item ---- gilted with silver or gold gilting (plating* ) at one time most likel---looks to be a victorian era type design -- (say 1850 to 1900)
