Found this old eagle buckle today... any idea how old and what it is? Also, any recos on how to clean the green off of it. So far I just used a light toothbrush and a bit of tap water... which made the green worse :(

Fantastic Recovery Job!!! :o

Wow, finding that belt loop is an amazing accomplishment! That took some real work and you've earned some serious respect. :icon_thumright:

There are a couple fellows that do exceptional work in relic restoration and repair.

Both are, I believe, in Virginia.

Leonard Short: relicfix@yahoo.com

Roland Frodigh: http://www.americanrelichunters.com/index.php?board=4.0

Congratulations once again on a spectacular find, and ESPECIALLY finding the missing piece!

Roland is a relic magician it will look awesome!

Fantastic 1820 militia belt plate!!!!! Like others have said, NO MORE CLEANING!!! You dont want to remove the patina. Roland is the man for this repair.

Now that's a great looking plate! And for those of you who call me asking what the depth of the Minelab Explorers are.....Look at the depth of this one in the photo! Nice save

Thanks guys... yeah finding that loop attachment was pretty amazing for me... When I said I was going to look for it, my wife looked at me like I was nuts. Her jaw hit the floor when i came home with it!

I won't clean it anymore!!! ;)

From a depth perspective, the photo doesnt do it justice b/c I took it after I pulled it from the hole. It was actually face down about another inch deep at the bottom of the hole. I took the pic for reference.

I'm talking to Roland about it... he is backed up, so I'll wait till he opens up again

Thanks again guys-- and if anyone lives in lower NY or anywhere in CT, pls drop me a line!

what a sweet find! i live in CT and can't wait to see what it looks like restored!

great buckle :icon_thumleft: MR TUFF

Finally got this buckle back from the restorer. My best find by a mile; according to experts it is a US Militia officer's plate, dated 1820-1823.
