Colonial button. Very beautiful. It is rare to find them with such nice patterns on them. Yours has even some gilt left on it! Am very interested to see if the back mark can be cleaned up and we can read what it says.

Thanks for the info Sentinel. I cleaned it some with a soft brush and mild soap but I still can not quite read it. It looks like it might say waterbury but not sure.

Very nice looking button.
How did you find it?

It was about 3 inches deep in that bean field where I found the Indian Heads.
I was running very little discrimination and digging everything above iron.

Looks like three words.

One is TREBLE.

Nice button Merf.
I see the words "Extra" & "Treble"

"London Extra Treble" ?

Most of the Buttons that are labeled "Treble Gilt" or "Extra Gilt" were made in the early 1800s. So it may be just a tad bit younger than Colonial Era but still a BEAUTIFUL old button!

Waterbury CT was the center of button manufacturing in the US back in the 1800's and early 1900's. One of the manufacturers was the Waterbury Button Company. Could it say that on the back?

Not sure Joe---I think I will have to try and clean it better somehow.

The missed ring mark is kind of interesting. How does that happen?
