Its probably nothing, but to me it looks old and I've seen some in that style that were old. I'm not good at all with buttons (and many other things at this point) so I figured I'd post it here.
Its pewter.....at least thats what it looks and feels like in person. Its a fairly heavy button compared to other buttons I have. About the size of a quarter, maybe a tad bigger. Probably modern, but in the house it came from it could be old. Its hard to tell for my untrained eyes.
Relatively crudely cast pewter button with brass eye-loop, date... c1820-40.
Nice state of preservation due to the fact that it's never been in the ground.
Some background info on my little button collection. My grandma was a seamstress and quilt maker and maker of all things sewing. She was a thrift store/yard sale searcher and had been for decades. She bought all kinds of sewing stuff, including buttons by the hundreds, and even removed them from old clothes she would get at yard sales and thrift shops. My sister is a really good seamstress herself and she inherited most of my grandmas sewing stuff when she passed away a few years ago, except a pale of buttons and a few quilts which she gave to me recently. I figure a lot of these buttons are newish. Maybe vintage but not antique if that makes sense. But anything she had could be really old because of how she was at collecting stuff.
The pewter buttons
The start of picking through stuff. Most of these are probably nothing, but eventually I'll pick through them all...
