old find finally gets ID'd

Dug did coin several years ago.Ive tried many time to find the ID but a good member here found it for me.IP did tell me it was low grade silver and it may have helped to nail this puppy down.At first I though it was from Austria but it was a guessing game at the time.A big thank you to steelheadwill for his help, and he did nail it down for me!This forum is the best yet!!

looks to be a 30 Denier Billon (low % silver alloy, this explains it's fragility, and the reason mine is tucked away rather than on top )
from the Lorraine region of France, the proximity to austria/germany
explains the image of that typically non french Eagle.
If you rotate your obverse pic a little it matches the one from this French MD site, yours is missing the first 2 Xs, that was why it took a while to track down.
A great 18th Century Dig!

Dude you must be losing it because I told you what that was a long time ago! I've had 2 or 3 of those in my hand since you found it. The last time we talked about it you said you couldn't figure out where it was.

Wierd, I got womens shoes when I opened up the link today :icon_scratch:
I got interested in this posted coin because I have a non dug version somewhere,
and recognized the eagle.
From what I can translate of the french it's .500 silver, better than most billon coins I believe,
Canadas Commemorative Dollars, labeled simply 'Silver' are .500 >:(
grabbed a few at $10, this is why, still fair bullion value,
and The RCMP has some premium value :laughing7:
IP is Consistently first with IDs, :notworthy:

Marc has had that coin for many years, and if I remember right he found it at a great site, one I was lucky enough to be among the first to dig.
