Old Finds using a Stone!.......

Spent 1 hour on the Thames Foreshore. Only used my eyes & a flat stone to scrap in the mud.

This is only my 2nd proper search & I got a broken hammered :headbang:

Great feeling to find it with eyes only & bumps the total up a bit this year.

Lots of Elizabeth I period hand made pins

(including my largest one found)

An 1837 'To Hanover' medallion of Victoria. :icon_thumright:

Lots of typing blocks.

And a small piece of Gold....

I have no idea, other than a piece of jewelry.

If you look how many pins I found in a small area & times that by 10, thats how many iron nail were about (piles of them everywhere). Maybe you can see why a stone would be better than a detector in this case.

I was thinking about a sifter, its a common tool of the river hunter. Its just difficult to carry to the office ::)

Your not wrong, I only wish I could dig more than the 3.5 inches that my permit allows. But its well guarded by the Mudlarks.

You can only dig 3.5" on riverbanks? The fields aren't the same? $:-\$ That is one thing I am thankful for in America...we can dig however deep we want.

This By-Law only exist on the River Thames (I believe), it because of the amount of wealth that can be found. The interest in money & the longest standing club (mudlarks) with routes in the Victorian period, means its well protected. They have a close relationship with the British Museum & many of the clubs finds are some of the best in their display. So the Govt protects their rights to dig. Its a closed shop & no-one can enter the club without years of waiting.
