Hey, dudes, it has been awhile since the club and I got out to do some treasure hunting. Last night, during my phone conversation with Paco, he said, "You guys are nuts! It isn't worth going out!" My response was, "It is a sickness, dude! Silver Zeus, Zoyboy, and I will be equipped with chisel and hammer, so, there ain't a nothin' that is going to stop us!"

Once we were on the 1700s fort site, the jokes started "flying." After about 45 minutes of continuous joking and detecting, I soon got a nice hit that brought me back to "seriousness." The target was reading a steady 56 V.D.I. and pinpointed at 3.5". I literally thought to myself, "Be careful, dude, with this one." After about 10 minutes of sledge hammering, I plucked a perfect, small area of dirt out. That was when I saw the Spanish silver shining brightly in the hole (it was stuck on edge). I instantly yelled, "Spanish Silver!!!" Zoyboy was about 40 yards away from me, and on those two words, he dropped his detector, and sprinted to me in about 4.38 seconds. Silver Zeus was the next to arrive at the retrieval site, while Zoy and I were dancing around like happy gibbons.

But, the digging process was not completed, because the coin was still stuck at the bottom of the hole. I still needed to chisel the coin out...YIKES! After finally chiseling it out, I was rewarded with a dateless Spanish half-reale.

It was my 1st silver coin of the year!

A great day for a great treasure seeker. Doyboy, you left many of the "viewers" speechless, hence, the low number of "replies." Bud, I take all of the criticism that I said about that DD coil back.

Even though you are not #1 on this forum, you are #1 on my list. :-* :-* :-*

Congrats Doyboy. You dish out a lot of crap on the forums, but this kind of find deserves some respect. Way to go, this is a lot better than that quarter you posted about a week ago. ;D
Looking forward to seeing more.

Great job,
MM

lol

I think he has a new outlook on life. No more crap. ;D
Let's hope it continues.

That is a cool coin. I did a little "chiseling" in spots today. Not fun. Still nice to get out a little.

What do you estimate that coin to be worth?

Bud, if the chap who dropped this coin would have brought this to a tavern, he could have bought 6.25 cents worth of ale.

Mona, we hope to have some more happy gibbon dances in the future! hehehe

Bergie, it may have actually been a 4.48 40 yard dash. The boy can run! 8)

Re: Old Fort = Spanish Silver

Nice old silver! Sure wish you could find those oldies this way.

Re: Old Fort = Spanish Silver

Great Find DoyBoy!, It looks like it might be a Mexican Spanish Reale, which was legal tender here in the U.S. until around 1812 or so. I found one almost like yours here in Ohio years ago and a friend of mine found another one in the same town a few years ago.

Great way to start the year, beats the heck out of that Quarter you posted.

Re: Old Fort = Spanish Silver

Great coin!

Re: Old Fort = Spanish Silver

Zeus, zoyster might have been flat-footed once he saw what was in the hole. I don't remember you running over gracefully, but that is the problem with most lunkers.

The frozen plugs are not too bad to put back. We were in a field, so we try to clean up as best as any professional would. :D
