I found this small hatchet head in a box at a yard sale. It's real hard to read the numbers, but it wouldn't matter since I have no idea how to research.

I am fairly certain your hatchet head is of German design/manufacture. It looks very much like the listed WW2 hatchet in the picture I attached. There are many different designs on hatchets/axes for Germany listed for WW2, and a design such as yours is one of them.
I am not saying yours is WW2, just like some for that purpose. The problem I have calling your for that period is the obvious corrosion yours has seen. It was either in very corrosive environment or is very old. I likely could do better but I just can not make out the stamped letters and logo. Sorry. I tried.

Thanks for posting. When I get home tonight I will see what I can find. Do not hold your breath.
Size of item always helps. Thanks.
In total it's 4.75" long. The blade is 2.25", the butt is 1" wide x 1.75" long, the eye is 5/8" at it's widest and 1.5" long. Hope it helps, and thank you!

I've added some pictures of the top and bottom.
