I was back out in the woods making my way to a site were I had found a lot of flat buttons and an old shoe buckle, maybe colonial, to see what else I could find. On a very large hillside close to this site I found this very large and old looking key. I would like to ask a question from some of the experts here, should I try to clean the rust off or is it too far gone for that? Thanks.

You could try electrolysis. It wouldn't hurt the key. I wouldn't clean it off by hand, because you don't know how thin the metal has gotten, and you could break it.

Wow the soil looks dry there also ! Might be some other goodies there still, I would hoof it back asap :hello2: :treasurechest:

If it was mine, I leave it as it is.

Its a great conversation piece now.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will just keep it as is.
