RSCN6687.webpRSCN6689.webpI am curious if anyone can tell me about this button. It is stamped on the backside "M.C. Lilley & Co. Columbus O." On the front a raised image of two men shaking hands. Around the rim are stars and the phrase "United We Stand Divided We Fall". Not sure what it is made of but the button is a shiny brass color. The shank or backside piece where it would be attached to the clothing looks to be made of copper and it is slightly bent. The button is in great shape but I am curious about it's age and identification. It measures about 2.5 cm.

Thanks for your help in advance!

It is definitely a post-civil-war era Kentucky State Seal button. According to the McGuinn-&-Bazelon book on dating button backmarks, M.C. Lilley & Co. was in the business of selling military goods from 1876 through World War 2.
