I was out on a service call today and when I went to the door to give the lady her bill, I saw a handful of marbles in the flower bed by the front step. I commented on them when she came to the door. I told her I collect old marbles, and she said I could have them. On my way out, I grabbed them up, and scratched around and found a lot of them. She told me she had tons of them somewhere, and she didn't care anything about them. I told her if she could find them, I'd buy them. I hope she does...if these were the ones relegated to the flower beds, I wonder what the ones she kept inside look like!

There are 42 slag marbles, 33 regular old glass marbles, 3 handmade glass ones in rough shape, and 2 pottery ones. The brown one is a bennington, the white one next to it is just like a bennington, but I've never seen one in white. It has the eyes on it like a bennie does though. I was excited digging them up!

that circled marble is a modern marble made in china...theyre purty but not worth much...that akro box is the bomb...any collector woulkd die for that box....great marbles...that rio theater bag is a fantasy bag and made to deceive ...the staples were rusted to try and show age.......they are the bane of marble collecting....the marbles in it are new marble kings made in 03 or so....great collections...the string in the akro box was used to make the circle for the ringer game...usually missing .......

Hey cheese that last marble is like the one I found the other day that I reffered to as the dirty looking one, Can that one be IDed.
Man thats some collection

What an awsome collection. I really like the Rio Theater freebies. What a treasure you have there. Soon it will be growing even more with the additions from the lady. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments folks!

Rich in Houston, those are some nice ones. I like the decorated china ones.

Texan connection...I've been looking a bit and I almost want to say the dirty looking one is a fancy bennington. It looks like it could be glazed, or has a lot of imperfections that look like what you'd expect in a glaze. Most bennies are regular blue or brown like in the small brown box in one of my pics.

I slowed down a lot on my marble collecting for several years, and my collection has been sitting in the closet for a long time with little attention. This little episode rekindled the enthusiasm. I've got the bug again, lol. Sure hope I hear from that lady soon!

I do admire everyone who collects marbles.
I recognise that each little marble is an individual little bit of art.
I just wish I hadn't lost all of mine, when I was at school.

But, the voices have said, I'm OK now ;)

Cheers, Mike

HI Cheese,

Yeah I found 2 marbles in my yard, while digging out part of a metal post
Iknew it was a post but dig it anyway.
Then popped out 2 marbles, one is clear with bubbles in it and the other
I looked up on www.landofmarbles.com
Its a 3/4 inch brown shooter bennington, got eyes on it to.
Its great shape.
I noticed you had a clear one with a cameo, of a bear I think in it thats worth
$175.00 I think.
Theres one like it that has a lady holding a baby in it and its worth $300.00
That the most expensive marble I'ev ever heard of.
Anyway great finding so many at that ladys place too ! Good Hunting !

Robin

Hi Robin,
Those are sulphide marbles with the figures in them. The one I have is a frog. Some marbles are worth thousands. Amazing, huh?
