I thought the whole of St. Augustine was historical. I'm confused about where to detect? Can one detect around the city? I already know about beaches and from waterline to toe of dune...blaa, blaa, blaa.

It was an interesting read from one of Robert Weller's book that said that TH'rs (NOT SALVAGERS) would wade in the water with detectors at the surf line (In water) and look for treasure in pockets and fissures. I guess that has changed since the book was written in 1995. Can one just detect without a detector and normally use a mask and search around any shore line (I'm talking a about 5 to 10 feet away from sandy shore) including wreck sites in the area(No...I'm not talking about detecting AT the wreck sites)? Any specific and detailed info would be helpful.

at wreck sites that are far enough off shore that their lease area does not run clear to the shore line is where folks do that --some sites are very close to shore and thier leased "radius" covers all the way to the shoreline at those spots water hunting of ant type is a no no-- while others are farther off shoreleaving a bit of a gap you can hunt ---you best understand which is which before do this -- I hope this helps you understand the "frogfoot" weller remarks
