Hi,

I found an old token of some sort while diving in Florida. It was buried near an old sunken ship. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Don isn't this coin called A Pine tree Cent?

From the engravings on the coin, we know that this was made by Paul Revere in 1776. The original worth of the coin in 1776 is highly speculated as it is claimed to be one cent but the markings on it are 1dLM which stand for one penny lawful money.

This is an odd marking as cents were in circulation and the influence of England did not change money in the state. Many of the fakes that you can buy as replicas have a mistake on them in these regards as the markings say 1cLM which stands for one cent lawful money. This is incorrect but an easy mistake to make. If you do own or buy a replica, check this marking on your collectable.

:icon_thumleft: Copper was scarce in Massachusetts in these times as it is not naturally occurring in the area. This copper was probably brought into the state by a traveller. For this reason, it is thought that there were not many of these coins made and therefore explains the fact that there are not lots of these in museums around Massachusetts and the United States of America.
This coin is priceless and is stored in the Massachusetts museum.

Red book says..... 1776 Pine Tree Copper.

A decent example of this coin would most likely buy you a nice house. Can't get any rarer then zero in private hands.
