Went out this past weekend for a few hours to swing at a coworkers house. He said the house was built in the 1950’s so I was hoping to find at least a rosi dime. obviously some sort of activity was going on well before the house was built.

Here is a group shot of my most significant finds for the day.

My first CW token dated 1863

I am pretty sure this is the token as it should look

A fairly fancy reign guide and copper ring

And finally a nice flat button and mercury dime.

I did find some other stuff like broken horse shoes and typical iron found at older sites so hopefully I will be able to go back in the near future.

HH everyone!

That's awesome that you're finding such old stuff at such a "new" site! That button is 1830-1840, so if you keep searching there maybe there'll be a Large Cent around somewhere!

Hey, with the stuff you're finding, you never know. The age of those relics certainly hints that there could be a large cent or similar age coin there!

I was detecting the yard of an 1870's house one time and found an 1803 large cent! If people were there in the 1840's (based on the button) they definitely could have dropped a large cent!

There definitely was activity there 90-100 years before that house was built. The front of the token has a date of 1863 from what I can tell. That mercury dime sure has lots of strong detail left. Congrats on a nice unexpected hunt.

My uncle has a NEWER home, but before he built it, he sold my Grandfather's 1750 house that was on the exact same site. The old home was moved a few towns away, and up went my uncle's cape. I grew up fascinated with the old house, it's weird that it's no longer there. So, all of our soil has some history before modern homes were built. There may be sites that have had more than one house in the same spot over the years.
