So the other day I was working an old home site where the property has been owned by the same family since the mid 1800s, and I came across this Swedish Meatball. It’s the oldest coin I’ve recovered thus far. I have found several relics on this property which include a woman’s wedding band, furniture ornaments, and several copper Henry rifle cartridges from the property owner’s great grandfather’s Henry rifle (which the property owner still has in his possession), but I think this 1857 5 ORE coin is by far the coolest find. It’s something that the property owner’s ancestors brought with them when they immigrated from Sweden in the mid 1800s. It was apparently lost to history when the home burnt down in the late 1800s. I am working on a shadow box with all of the cool items I have found on the property to present to the property owner for Christmas, and this coin is going to be a great focal point for the display I think.
