Just fixed mine. My reale is an 1804, not an 1805. Sorry for the confusion :icon_sunny:

Thanks for starting this thread. I will have to take a pic of it tonight and post.

I will have to dig through my coins today, as I have another bust half and some large cents that will qualify.

Re: Oldest U.S coin you've dug in Michigan? (Now Ranked!)

Ian,

Please correct my oldest coin. It is an 1811, but it is an 1811 Bust half, not a dime. I posted it wrong in my first post. Sorry.

I also have an 1814 and an 1821 Bust half.
You can throw in an 1834 bust dime and an 1827 Large cent for good measure. Here is a pic of the 1811 Bust half.

Dan - Thanks for participating! That is a dream coin - I'd fall over if I dug it! Where did you find it? I will change that up - I'm trying to come up with a different format in spreadsheet so I'll have that done by the end of this week with updates. I have a couple of other changes to make. I might do categories including one for non US coins.

Re: Oldest U.S coin you've dug in Michigan? (Now Ranked!)

No need to thank me for participating. It is a great thread and I am glad to contribute. I have more pics of the other coins, but I don't want to monopolize your thread. I will let some others post some more before I add some more pics, I can post them elsehwere so I don't take over your thread.

To answer your question, I found that half near a very old crossing along a large river. I found some other very old coins there too. It is a very difficult spot to hunt due to ever changing water levels.

Re: Oldest U.S coin you've dug in Michigan? (Now Ranked!)

Just got out my book of coins and wanted to update on some of the other catagories. Here they are:

1875 seated dime

1877 seated half dollar (never dreamed I'd find one of these!!)

1856 3 cent silver

1895 Barber quarter

This is a fun thread, keep it up!! HH Dan
