OMG, Confederate Cavalry Button? 5-25-2026

It sure looks like a Confederate Cavalry Button! Did I just find a Confederate Cavalry Button in NE PA? The reverse disintegrated coming out of the hole. What's pictured is all I could find.

About 25-30 yards from where I found the button, stood a home on the 1860 map that was owned by a gentleman, that we found this evening, that served in the Civil War. He may be the very reason the button was there.

I need to dig into his service record and where his regiment fought. His regiment was a Pennsylvania unit, his company was raised in Northampton County. Looks like he spent his entire life in our township except for his time in the military.

So, this may be a bit of a stretch, bear with me. The house, originally owned by the Civil War soldier burned to the ground in 1958. They say the fire could be seen from miles away, burning in the early morning hours. I know there was an investigation, the occupant at that time died in the fire. My thought is that the debris was relocated for the investigation to what would have been the side yard and that's why I found the Confederate button there. It would also make sense that the barn burned, ignited by the embers from the house. That debris may have been moved to the same general area which would make sense why we found so many horse tack buckles, rivets, and bells in that location.
