One Big Dump

I dumped $2160 the hard way - mostly cents (by weight anyway).

All in one dump:
0.01 - $760 - that's a lot of Zn pennies folks
0.10 - $1010
0.50 - $390

There were 17 bag changes and I was at the self-serve coin machine for 1.5hr. I took a pic with my phone, but it didn't save for some reason. I was fighting with the elevator door while I took the picture. I had 2 stacks of bins piled 4 high on a 4-wheel moving dolly, with a 1/2 full 5gal pail balanced on the end.

What's the biggest dump you've ever done?

Biggest was 6k in halves to one location.

Right now I've got 3450 in my trunk (7 bags).

Average day is 3-5k in dumps, if its more than 3k i try to split it between 2 locations so they dont get overwhelmed and B) more than 6 coin lock bags is to heavy! (168 lbs, good workout!)

Am I alone in thinking that is way too much? 1.5 hours and 17 bag changes? No way they will be happy to see you again anytime soon. If they were happy and all smiles when changing all the bags, then go for it. My opinion is that is a sure fire way to lose a dump bank.

Noted. This is actually not one of my dump banks. I made "special" arrangements to dump here 1 time. I called ahead and talked with them about it. I explained that I had a huge amount of loose coin. I told them it was many hundreds of dollars of pennies, over a thousand dollars in dimes, etc. They welcomed me to do it. This a branch that I would never go back to because of location, but they are the only one that has the self-service coin counter. I wanted to experiment with it as all of my existing dump banks have the coin machines behind the teller counter. I didn't care for this self-service as much as I thought I might. It was much slower than I am accustomed to.

I had some serious "catching up" to do as I had amassed 23 bags of mixed cents before I got my home-brew Cu sorter put together. Now that I've dumped the backlog, I will never have such a dump again.

When I get a chance to tally the take, I'll post about the finds from the 23 bags (46 box equiv.) of cents. From memory, 6-8 pre 1920 wheats, 8-10 1920-1930; 12-15 1920-1930; 2 1943 steel; 100's 1940-1958 wheats; 100's Canadian. Actual figures will be forthcoming.

My thoughts, too when I read the title!

My biggest dump is usually less than 1k and I get uptight when they have to do 1 bag change.

My biggest was a little over $3000, but I've had 15 times over the past 5 years that have been $2000 or over.

That being said, my largest by volume was 12/31/2009 when I dumped $1278 with about $200 of it in nickels and the rest in pennies. Filled the big bin on the self serve coin machine twice myself. I was there for over an hour. Many trips to the car. It was a catch up trip... at a branch I rarely go to.

When I was finishing up, I noticed that some of my coins weren't being counted properly due to the collar in the main compartment being off slightly leaving a gap that they could fall through when a lot of coins were dumped in at once. I brought this to the attention of the teller who was changing the bins and she took off the lid and then proceeded to give me all the loose change that had fallen through and was scattered everywhere inside the machine. Turned out to be $41.42 in change + 27 foreign coins (free money)... sure some of it was mine, but only a little of it as there were only a couple hundred pennies and I didn't have any quarters or dimes.

The lead teller only asked that if I ever have that much again that I call first so they can have enough bins on hand for others.

Filled up a bin with pennies by myself a couple of other times as well (I think they hold around $450 in pennies if memory serves).
