Hey there my TNET buddies....I am still sitting pretty for the year's goal of 100 rings. Two more this week (see pics). I've got a question....In the 2 1/2 years I have been hunting, I have never found a necklace. I've found pendants, bracelets, earrings.....any idea how I might be missing them? It seems odd that I haven't even found one. Thanks for looking and all your encouragement and support.

Have you ever buried a chain in sort of an "S" shape, a "U" shape, or sort of balled up and ran your detector over it? Anything with that many surfaces and holes will give you a weird signal. You've probably scanned them and decided not to dig them. Sort of like foil which is many times gold. How are you on nickels? No nickels, not much gold. Just the way things are. At least on my DFX.

Congrats on the rings Iskuli! :)

Chains are difficult for most detectors. Since chains aren't one piece of metal, the detector must be able to get a signal on individual links or the clasp. They usually ID around 0 to 8 VDI on Whites machines, for instance. Most of the time you won't get a signal or you might think it's trash. Some folks use gold detectors (high frequency - good for small targets) to find chains.

I would recommend that you get some chains together and do some bench testing.

Hey Girl!

Great job! 2 beautiful rings to add to the collection. The silver one is very unique, maybe ill get you some pics of my silver rings, ive got some pretty neat ones myself. As far as the chains go, a couple guys are right. Chains are difficult, test ur machine out on several different types of chains and ull see how ur machine reacts. The chain usually has to be pretty thick, a nice clasp on it or a pendant attached for the machine to give u a decent signal. The machine tries to pick up each individual link and not the gold in whole. Even if u take the chain and ball it in a ball u still wont have any luck most the time. I know many beaches are littered with gold chains. I also found that many machines wont pick up broken rings. Ive had several gold rings break at the seam and the machines not pick them up anymore, but when I touch the ends together it fires off. So its all about the machine and how many khz ur running on, the higher the more sensitive the machine is but u also will lose depth, and pick up alot more trash. So I hope this helps! Again I love the rings, Keep it up I know ull hit 100 this year!

I have the secret!!!!

You have to hold your mouth about half open and stick your tongue out the left side about two inches while clinching your teeth together on the right side.

Now that you know that you aren't holding your mouth right, you should do just fine!!!!!!

Hi... I seem to concur With Daryl's thought on how u are with nickles. It made me think of my own hunting, and how i have no gold or nickels because I normaly avoid my foil/5cent display cause you get tired of junk. I think this year im gonna start digging everything unless I really suspect trash. I do believe that is holding back a lot of peoples finds. Congrats and great work, im so jealious...Craig...

That's it! That's the secret! :D

I have an MXT and it picks up necklaces fairly well...I think! :P :D Seems that it doesn't give a definate "you need to dig me" signal though, like a coin or a ring would..unless like CB says, it has a pendant attached.

Those rings are just super! Congrats on the finds!!

DaChief ~ now I am confused....that's the way I find gold RINGS. I need the "face code" for necklaces.....just kidding. I am definately finding nickels and foil. I have not detected in the all metal mode. I will try that and testing some chains I own at the park to see how my machine does with them. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

As a suggestion for testing chains in the park, disturbed soil will not act like "regular" soil. When you bury the chain, do so at about 3-4" pack it down and soak it with water. Let it sit while you metal detect other places. Come back when the water has gone down in the soil. It will give you a "better" reading. Might want to mark it with a gold tee or something. Wouldn't want to lose it. :D
