One man's sewage is another man's treasure. LITERALLY

Came across a article while surfing the web. It had to do with mainly dissolved or small precious metals in sewage treatment plants. Link below then my thoughts on it. I'm no chemistry pro so maybe someone can add to it.



1) Add cyanide aniion.
2) Stir the ****.
3) Filter.
4. Use smashed/chipped up scrap metal to collect precious metals coins etc.
5) Add oxygen by stirring +bleach, and or hydrogen sulfide to nuetralize the cyanide, filter and turn back into irrigation water.
6) turn solids back into fertilizer

Sorry about that. Thanks for the heads up. Won't happen again and wasn't intentional. Didn't know if website censored or not so I did it myself as a just incase for any youngins or sensitive people.
 

I'm a business manager at a sewage treatment plant. The problem might be stopping the sewage long enough to extract any valuables. It tends to be a "flow" process as folks get upset when we stop and thirteen million gallons a day backs up into their streets and trunk lines.

Worst problem we have is pharmaceuticals. Almost impossible to remove - so we don't.

It ain't mercury that limits the amount of freshwater fish you should eat per month.
 

I would think it could be done without stoppage. Doesn't sewage sit in containers where solids drop to the bottom etc? If so it could be added in at that point or another stage where it flows through a device adding the cyanide then through the scrap iron etc. Like a large giant sluice box per say

Any money made is gonna be chewed up payin the guy doin the cleanout on that sluice lol. I imagine you'd have to pay someone a whole lot do that...
 

Very interesting. $8 million worth of precious metals, for every 1 million people. Sounds incredible.

The tests were done in AZ, a little unclear if it was commercial type sewage or residential.

It's a little hard to believe that residential type sewage would be that rich, I can see some jewelry lost in storm sewers, but can't see how gold is getting into the average toilet.

I understand we are talking about micro gold, but still, where is it coming from?

Yes. We have grit screens and chambers to trap solids, thickener processes to seperare dissolved solids and biological digestion to break down nutrients and settle sludge. But we're not likely to add cyanide to any process that ends up in the river. Make you a good deal on the centrifuge dried sludge that we ship to the landfill. Free if you come with a truck that fits under the conveyor.
