Diane and I headed to the Sonora area in search of a house to rent for my upcoming retirement.....not an easy thing to find. She hauled me around for two days looking at this property and that house....I was sick of real estate and in need of a gold fix. I finally made it out to the claim and started doing my gopher impersonation. Lots of fine gold (which means I have to get out the blue bowl) but a respectable amount of flakes and plckers.

Very nice! would you care to show us that fine stuff to? I'm not able to go out digging some yellow metal for quite a while. :(

Thanks for the good wishes gang.
I have not processed the cons from the last trip so I have no pic to show...but you might be interested in my take from 2007.
I usually post on a Calif forum so I will just copy the post from there and include pics.

"oct 07-- I just got back from my last gold trip yesterday. We were digging like gophers for two solid days on a claim near Sonora.(my girlfriend only dug one day and went antique shopping the second day) Unfortunately, details and location come under the heading of "If I tell you...I'll have to kill you" but I thought you might like to see some of the results from the last three trips.
The nugget weighed in at 27 grams.
The quartz gold is 71 grams.
I don' have a weight on the different pans.
Rick "

One piece of quartzgold was treated with hydroflouric acid to dissolve the quartz (don't try this at home campers...it is serious stuff). I had a friend do it and he has years of experience....but the result is spectacular art from nature. Hint...if the quartz feels really heavy...don't throw it back

;D ;D ;D

Most gold is pretty fine and often I modified the equipment to fit our conditions here. (aka so I can get both big and small gold)

Thats one summers work.(mostly weekends one day at a time for 4-7 hours each time)

gold.JPG

Thats a modded highbanker (gold buddy) I have worked with. Gets gold under (smaller then) 100 mesh. ;D
(And the big stuff here to approx 10mm are the most common nuggets where I mine)
