I had 2 hrs to spend today so i tried one of the better roman fields but there was only a small strip to detect. No other options this time of the year. This field is known for lots of pottery and broken tiles and everytime i hunt there i pick a couple to look if there are decorated ones. Today i was lucky. Some nice pottery and a piece of wall tile. The bigger red piece in the middle bottom is found with the detector as there is metal in the shard. :icon_scratch:
Find of the day is the roman key. Other finds are the usual stuff, lead, square nails, WWII shell fragments, buttons, one is a lead button with iron shank and some coins. The only roman coin could be a beauty but has a dip of burnt lime on it.... Maybe lost during a construction period?

cool finds. I'll bet that field is great after being plowed and rained on

Nice! Did you find any potatoes?:laughing7:

You can bet on that! :laughing7: Hopefully i can post some more from that field later this year! You need a wheelbarrow for shards there.

:tongue3: Not yet. On harvest time i'll take a couple home when out detecting. Nothing better than potatoes fresh from the field!

Nice finds Westfront.

Awesome finds!

nice finds congrats HH

Great hunt! What year is the 5 pfennig?

Thanks, it's a 1924. Every time they show up it's a heartstopper because they still have their golden shine...

Great finds there. The roman key is beatiful, with a nice green patina. I also like the coins of course, but the tiles and pottery would make a great display!

Cheers,

Buck

Really nice key!!
Is it missing the lower part, where it looks rusted, or that's they way it is?

Thanks BB! Patina is actually a light green. Looks very nice! I grabbed a bunch of roof tile shards too, some for decorating GFs flower bed and some for display.

Thanks, the iron part is rusted away. Only the bronze handle is left. There were iron keys, bronze and hybrids used. This decorated style is more rare compared with the iron ones.

Here is a pic from a beautiful key found less than 30 mls from me. (This one is a museum copy)
