Found mostly clad today couple silver quarters. Then I was getting ready to leave....Got the normal overload while in C&J mode. No big deal normally I just walk away..However as i backed off it wouldn't come off 1$(94). So I had to check, otherwise Id have to go back in a week..lol. As I got close to it it revealed itself, shinny and large. That when I seen the design. Now I'm all in, have to dig it. Not knowing what it was i started taking pictures, just in-case I had to document where I found the Holy Grail. Ask yourself, would you dig after seeing the first picture..? Came home wipped it down a bit, serving tray...No biggie, but the cool part is that its engraved...and reads..

:"" To the Robert Brown family""
"Dedicated service""
"Belehanam? baptist church"...(Update)(Its Bethlehem Baptist Church, and there is like 25 of them in the state of AL)
"1914"
Makes ya wonder how long its been there, or how it got there.

Anyhow that's my story for the day...thanks for looking.

HH,
ZachNBama

That is some digging right there... But a cool find, can't say that I have ever found a serving tray. :icon_thumright:

That is a really cool find! I would definitely dig that, too many of my overload tagets turned out to be unique finds. Is it sterling silver?

Its seemed to be flaking the silver "sticker" looking stuff off of it. It kinda looks like copper in the bends, and underneath the flaked pieces. Trying to find some history on the church now.

Its Bethlehem Baptist Church, and there is like 25 of them in the state of AL...

That is definitely a unique find!!
Probably a first for treasurenet.
Congrats!!

Would love to see photos of the tray once it's cleaned.

Also, hope you checked UNDER the tray ... sometimes a tray was an indication of even more treasure underneath it.

Any Ideas???? on cleaning, or soaking...?

All i have done is hit it with the garden house and a little dish soap to read the engraving.
Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Z

was it full of grubs ? nice find not sure the pro pointer was needed for that

If it looks like silver plate, use a few drops of Dawn dishwasher soap in a bucket of water, and gently rub with a chamois. Should clean most of the pattern work without excessive additional damage. I can tell there is some interesting impressions on the platter, but can't get an overall sense of the impressions. I bet somewhere on the piece will be the maker's mark and probably an indication of silver or silver-plate. All silver is now required to be stamped .900 or .925 somewhere on it: equals coin silver or sterling silver.

Now that's a neat find! Extra good that there is a name and info for research! Would be neat to find out more on the piece.
Congrats!!
