Found mostly clad today couple silver quarters. Then I was getting ready to leave....Got the normal overload while in C&J mode. No big deal normally I just walk away..However as i backed off it wouldn't come off 1$(94). So I had to check, otherwise Id have to go back in a week..lol. As I got close to it it revealed itself, shinny and large. That when I seen the design. Now I'm all in, have to dig it. Not knowing what it was i started taking pictures, just in-case I had to document where I found the Holy Grail. Ask yourself, would you dig after seeing the first picture..? Came home wipped it down a bit, serving tray...No biggie, but the cool part is that its engraved...and reads..

:"" To the Robert Brown family""
"Dedicated service""
"Belehanam? baptist church"...(Update)(Its Bethlehem Baptist Church, and there is like 25 of them in the state of AL)
"1914"
Makes ya wonder how long its been there, or how it got there.

Anyhow that's my story for the day...thanks for looking.

HH,
ZachNBama

Nice little piece of history. Great find.

Any chance at seeing the engraving? Was it found out in the woods or in a yard? To me pieces like this are much more fun to find then a plain coin. Defiantly some fun research coming.

You may (or may not) wish to do a little mallet pounding on this. A rubber mallet on a flat wooden surface should help to put that piece back into a flat bottom surface. I can see some of the engraved writing, but just some of it.

Did you fine a maker's mark yet? It often will be on the rim, sometimes near the handles. Or, it could be in the very center of the bowl.

Hey maybe its a sign you need to make an offering ! Awesome find !

Wow! I wonder if the one word is 'baptist'. I suppose if you wanted you could take an inconspicuous edge or w/e of the plate at your own risk and scratch it to help verify its composition. Used to do that for discerning 1982 pennies (from circulation, not dug lol).

No marking yet, still looking though...

Thats a cool find. I like how it has the engravings on it. :icon_thumleft:

No doubt how it got there, someone recognized the mistake and buried it!! Nice find, regardless.
