Hello Teacher (Name Censored),

I have regret to inform you that I will not be attending class for the next two weeks and not taking the final unless there is a way to salvage my grade. I have been trying all quarter to learn these concepts that you are presenting me with, and to no avail my grade still suffers from the quizzes that you give us. I know I pretty much have had a big chunk of my grade taken away because of it. Right now if I only had my tests compiled 82% and that’s not including the participation score. Since there is quizzes my grade has dropped below a C- and will drop even further because I keep failing these quizzes that you keep on giving us.

I go to the math lab almost every day at least 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour to get help with math. I am also attending class every day, and try and have a good attitude toward this class and your teaching methods. When it comes to practicing at home, I do all the homework and I even study for every quiz/test. If some concepts do not make sense to me, I go to the math lab the day after class to see if the tutors can help me. Even though it does not seem to reflect in my scores for my quizzes, it does reflect in my test scores. I can have many of the tutors in the math quarter have input on whether I was there or not. I also study my heart out at home on not only math, but my other classes.

If my test scores are not enough to prove that I know the material and deserve a C- to move up, then I have no interest in going tomorrow or next week or even taking the final if I am going to get a D grade. To me that is not even worth it and you just wasted my time and money. The only reason I am taking math in the first place is so I can get into my programming 110 class, which needs math 099. I need Programming 110 in order to graduate. By the end of the quarter I will have 58 credits out of 90 credits leaning towards my AA in Technical Support.

If my Tests scores, and participation aren’t enough for you, is there any extra credit work that could salvage my grade? I know we still have three more quizzes, but that is not enough to get my score back up, and frankly I would not want to take them anyways since my score is already in the gutter. If there is no way to get my grade up, Then good day to you and I will not be attending class the rest of the week or next week or the final. I have better things to spend my time with like studying for my CompTIA A+ certification.

From,

Matthew

Been there before... many times. I usually just went to the prof to talk to them myself, and if they seemed uncaring or unwilling to help me with extra credit work or SOMETHING to get me by, I'd usually just drop the class and take it on the chin. Even though I studied for hours on end while most of my friends played Halo Tournaments in the evenings, they still managed to do better than me most of the time. Instead of chalking it up to me being a "bad student", I figured out why I was so bad at most of it... it was just the tests and being required to memorize everything. I have a horrible memory already and that's usually what most tests consist of. So I just pushed along and tried my hardest. Some classes I did very well in, while others I barely got by. It usually had to do with the prof and how they taught & tested us... but I just did the best I could. It's tough when it comes to the required classes, especially if you aren't very good at it. But just keep pushing through, even if you have to take it more than once (though I KNOW no one ever wants to have to do that) Just keep your chin up... hopefully it'll all work out for you.

Thanks dude! I am gonna receive an F in the class and retake my class. That's the same way I feel with friends playing halo 3 tournaments. They invite me and I tell them no because I'm studying for tests and such.

I understand. F's suck... I usually just tried to shoot for at least a "D" if it was a class that I knew would be difficult. Afterall, D stands for Diploma! lol Yep, it was frustrating that my friends usually did way better than me with minimal effort... but I couldn't changed that. Eventually, during my last two years of school, it really pushed me to try even harder than before. I eventually pulled A's & B's the last 3 or 4 semesters of school. I didn't care about my GPA or grades, but it made me feel good to see some results... even though I had no social life because I pushed myself whenever I wasn't working (full time) Between work and my full time (16 credit hours) school schedule, I somehow managed to get the rest of them knocked out. I still have some basic classes left that I'm going to be working on down here in FL, along with some additional basic medical courses (hopefully). Just keep trying and you'll get through it eventually. Hey, I crammed a 4-year degree into 6 years. lol
