Possible? maybe I would in NO WAY try to do this with any of my buttons . It most likely would decrease their value ' WILL' IMO As they would not be original , but its up to you.

No, you want patina on your buttons. Clean them very lightly with soap and water just enough to get the dirt off.

It's better to never clean the button if you think you might over clean them.
