Hi All,

My son and I have just started searching for gold in idaho. We have found some gold and these little flake certainly look like gold.. no doubt. However, in another small creek near our house we have found a good amount of orange, very fine material. This stuff appears to be of greater density than the blacksands, and behaves just like gold in a gold pan. It just doesn't look like gold. There are not even any small flakes in it. We are confused as to what this could be? Perhaps rusted iron?

Please help if you have encountered this mystery before!

No gold is pure gold.....has silver, copper etc and higher copper content will give gold an orangish tint but that doesnt sound like what your encountering
