Our AWESOME New Cloud Formations in SW Missouri !!

Some pics from this before this mornings storms in SW MO. The NWS says this is a new type of cloud formation. Well, here are some pana pics I took before the rain hit.

I have seen these types of clouds here in Michigan, after it passed over us it created some damaging tornadoes.
We saw the same type clouds in the morning also.
They are beautiful, thanks for sharing your photos.

The evening news here had a name for them,but don't ask me what it was,and that the last time they occured was in 1951.They were not storm clouds and no severe weather.After they passed,the rain came in.They were some kind of inverted vortex thingys.

Here is the only info as of now...from the National Weather Service...
A storm system moving across the Ozarks on Monday morning produced widespread interest for more than just the thunder and rainfall it produced. As the system moved across the region, the balance of instability aloft and a relatively stable low level airmass helped to produce what was likely a potentially new form of clouds now under review by the World Meteorological Society or WMO. The cloud type in question has been named, "Undulatus asperatus".

Those are some wild looking clouds. Would probably make me fire up the 2 meter HT and listen in on SKYWARN.

"Undulatus asperatus" losely translated in Latin means "What The ?".
Neat looking clouds. Reminds me of Van Gogh's "Wheatfield" painting

Good pics, Brad. I have seen those before, too, and usually it turns off cool at the time. To me, that type of formation indicates a lot of turbulence in the upper atmosphere.
