My boyfriend and I have looked and looked and finally today with 6hrs of searching we found our very first Indian artifact. Not sure if this is called an ax head or maul but very cool and we were thrilled. The end is still crisp and sharp. Found in NW Missouri

Grooved Ax and a nice one

I have been looking for over 40 years and never found an axe. You do know that it will be hard to top that one but I hope you do.

Very nice full grooved ax.

wow, we are very lucky...we just started hunting 5 months ago. Yes told my boyfriend that's hard to beat. thanks!!

Is the end shaped like a cutting blade or is it blunt. I can't tell from photo, just can see some wear pattern on the end. A axe will have a knife like end and a maul will be more of a blunt end. If you can show a photo of the bit end. Great find either way:notworthy:

That first find sets a very high standard. Continued good luck to you!

very nice find,thanks for sharing

An Axe as the first find... Holy cow. No flint/chert arrowheads or other tools even?? I couldn't mean congratulations any more than ever!!!

Very nice! I've been hunting for almost 20 years and have yet to find a grooved ax. Certainly there are points to be found there

yes first find, crazy! there was flint and found 3 pieces that I think might have been arrowheads but not sure. I'll post below

Congratulations on a very nice find! :icon_thumright:

yep, those are worked artifacts the three

Thanks!! I didn't want to feel silly by posting something I thought it was and it wasn't ...but I'm so glad.

Definitely broken points... Awesome. Hope the site keeps producing for you guys!!!

Definitely a Grooved Axe and a very nice one too. Congrats on your first find!

That is an amazing first find. I've been looking for 60 years and have never found one.
