Hey everyone! We just got back from Mding today and thought we'd share what we found! ;D
a railroad spike (That's funny because I work for the railroad and see them all day long), 3 antique window weights, an old door hinge, 6 pennies 1963-2002, a 1978 nickel, a 2006 dime, 2 quarters 1996 & 97, a rifle shell, an engine push rod, a golf ball from Tinker Air Force Base golf course, 2 wingnuts, 11 bolts and nails, part of a tootsietoy car, camcorder battery, 17 pull tabs, costume jewelry earring, a sterling silver graduation cap pendant, a bottle cap, a piece of a cast iron stove?, and a 2" round heavy cast iron ring of some sort. Not too much, but not too bad for our fourth day trying! We have decided to start collecting pull tabs! (We find alot of them!) Also, does anyone know how to get your pictures smaller kb size? We tried posting some pics, but it said our files were too large. Until next time....Treasurecowboy & Ladybug

You can have a lot of fun with a railroad spike if you use your imagination. A fellow detector and I picked up a spike while looking for Civil War relics. Later that day, a couple came up and asked us what we were up to. We explained and showed them what we found, pieces of cannon balls, bullets, harness buckles, but as they examined the spike, my partner, Jim, comments that it was probably a spike from the underground railroad.

We were both waiting for the grins to appear, but instead, got a "No kidding!" That was all it took, Jim launched into a yarn about how the camouflaged tracks ran through the area and farm houses with secret rooms and tunnels to the outhouse. At the end, we insisted they take the spike as a memento of history.

Can't believe how gullible some people are. Of course we can never go back there and detect again, at least without some sort of disguise.
