Simply a fantastic day, perfect conditions sunny blue skies 75°with a slight offshore breeze, low tide in the afternoon! Went to a beach that has extreme black sand. I don’t know where it ends because I haven’t dug down deep enough to find out! Not many hunters hunt this area. Well today I did for about2 1/2 hrs🏴‍☠️☠️🏴‍☠️

On the board with a fine yellow ticket. Congrats, another slayed by the AQ.🤙💍🏴‍☠️
Huge shout out to 1kBlueTuber, Big Jim and OBN
For helping me with the AQ !

Sweet class ring, looks like an oldie! is that 10k or 14k? Which machine were you using? Good job on the clean up!
Because it’s been sitting in the black sand for so long the 10 karat gold has tarnished a quick little electrolysis and a toothbrush scrub, and it comes out looking nice and shiny🤩AQ!

Thank you, and I’m hoping there’s more to show🏴‍☠️!

SWEET find SNT! There's nothing like hunting where others won't, so you can find what others can't find. :icon_thumright:

You gotta do what you can…. little research,
thinking out of the box and having the right tools can lead you to victory!
dig everything have lots of patience metaldetecting has a learning curve….. then you get different detectors with another learning curve. practice and patience and dig everything
I owe. It’s off to work we go! 💛🪎

Amen to that SNT! Both are very important. For the last 15 years, I've been swinging a Sovereign Elite, which has been my "do it all" detector. The Sov allowed me to search any part of the beach I wanted, dry, wet, shallow water, black sand. But I wouldn't say it was the "best" tool to use hunting over black sand, it did fairly well & hit on some good targets, but I'm sure there were targets I missed that were just a wee bit deeper. And although it's strong on the wet and in shallow water, I never thought it was the "best" tool to use for hunting shallow ocean water, as it's not waterproof, so didn't want to risk going too far out and possibly dunking the box, so it forced me to stick to very shallow water. So even if I knew there were good targets deeper out (knowledge), I couldn't get to them without the risk of frying my detector (right tool). I've also heard many highly experienced water hunters say VLF's lose sensitivity & depth when in saltwater. Makes sense because if ya gotta reduce sensitivity to work in saltwater, the lower sensitivity usually translates to less depth.

But now, I'm much better prepared, and thanks to OBN, I was able to add a Dual Field PI to my arsenal, that he previously owned and modded. I know a PI typically performs better over black sand, and I know it will outperform my Sov on the wet and when under saltwater, as I've always typically had to reduce my Sov's sensitivity to work those areas. But I can say with certainty that my experience with the DF PI is the exact opposite. Once I set sensitivity, I usually don't readjust, unless I'm over some serious, hard core black sand. It's crazy but I've discovered the DF PI seems to become more sensitive under saltwater. During my 2nd hunt, I was working the wet water's edge. I got a signal and as I swept the coil from different angles, saltwater came rushing in and covered the coil. As soon as the PI's coil was covered by saltwater, the target's signal volume increased, like I had switched on a signal booster. When the saltwater receded, the targets signal volume dropped back to normal. That was my first indication the DF PI was more sensitive under saltwater, while my VLF BBS Sov would less sensitive. And since the DF is totally waterproof, that gives me the option to head out deeper without worrying about frying my detector if I got dunked by a wave or rushing water.

So, having those 2 detectors, each using different technology along with the DF being fully waterproof, has put me in a much better position to be able to hunt on land/sand or in the water, as deep as I want to go. So, IMO, I feel more prepared for just about anything I come across on the beach. I know there's deeper/better PI's, and deeper/better VLF SMF's, but I'll be 69 next month, and the older I get, the more I want to enjoy my hunts, and the less deep I prefer to dig, lol. BTW, also added a SMF X-Terra Elite to the arsenal, primarily as a backup but that one's waterproof as well, so I can hit the water or work in the rain, lol. So, between those 3 detectors, I think I have all my bases covered, at least for the beaches I hunt.

Yeah buddy, the Dual Field is my first PI in 57 years detecting, so I was mentally preparing myself for a steep learning curve. But truthfully, after swinging it for the first hour or two, I didn't find it much different from swinging my Sov for years in all metal mode and didn't seem to have any problems figuring out what was what. I guess I can credit my overall detecting experience and hunting in all metal mode with my Sov over the last 15 years with giving me a solid background and head start. If I was brand new and never swung a coil before, might be a different story with the PI, lol.

Very nice 🏴‍☠️Congratulations 😎 Black sand😲 TDI BH☠️

Sometimes maybe after having some success, you might get curious I wouldn’t say bored, but you wanna try something new why not with new technology you never know? my excal is by far my favorite Detector that I’ve hunted with…. all metal mode has helped me with the PI🏴‍☠️👍🏻. almost 20 years of detecting and I have purchased seven detectors from beginner to expert. I just can’t help myself, but I’ve made my money back multi so I look at it as a future investment and it’s fun! Sand swinger, Appreciate all your info and the time you put in with hands-on information here on Tnet! 🙏🏻🏴‍☠️

Hey pal, any black sand on your beaches or are they all just beautiful white gold! 🤩fisher AQ☠️

Thanks SNT, appreciate the kind words. Glad that you're getting something from my info. As you might be able to tell, I love to write, love to chat, share stories, knowledge, whatever I can contribute. I'm just a couple weeks away from hitting 69, so don't know how much more time the good Lord plans to give me, so I want to help as many guys as I can, and contribute as much as I can, before I leave for the Big House. Even if I'm no longer on Earth, my words will still be here, so I guess my words would be like leaving some type of legacy or something like that. I just don't want to leave Earth without causing a few ripples in the pond. Otherwise, nobody would ever know that I was even here, lol.

I have some good buddies on another forum that like to bust my chops about my posts being too long, lol. Hey, I love chop busting so bring it on. I did a mega post yesterday on that forum and I think I may have melted some minds. One of the guys asked me a question/my opinion so he opened the door and I let it fly. Truth is, I love information and details, and I've been on the receiving end of a lot of crappy info, lack of details, one sentence answers, etc. Basically, the answers I'd get would just lead to me having even more questions. So, if someone asks a question about a detector, technique, hunting in sand, whatever, and if I have knowledge or experience that I can share, I'm gonna reply and try to help the person understand. But ya can't always do that in 1 sentence. Sometimes, it takes more words and more sentences to adequately explain what you're trying to say. Guess that's why my motto is: "Why use a sentence when a paragraph will do", lol.

BTW, looks like we're both swinging similar machines and have similar experiences. You have an Excal and I have a Sovereign Elite, both are same circuit, Sov is for land hunting, Excal is waterproof so for use underwater. You mentioned running your Excal has helped you with your PI. I posted the other day about how running my Sov in all metal helped me with my Dual Field. I was mentally preparing myself for the "change" I was expecting with the PI, but the crazy thing is, I didn't find the PI to be difficult at all. After swinging for the first hour or two, the PI felt right at home, and on the 4th or 5th time out, got a 925 ring with stones around the band. I credit my Sovereign because my Sov has made me dig some very deep holes over the years, so that prepared me well for digging deep holes with the PI, really no difference in my mind. And running my Sov in all-metal mode prepared me well for running the PI, so I'm used to digging everything anyway, lol.

This is gonna sound a bit crazy, but I did notice 1 difference with the Dual Field PI that I've never experience before with any detector I've owned. I don't really know how to adequately explain this, but I'd be interested to see if you've experienced anything similar with your PI, compared to your Excal and other detectors you've owned. I'll try to explain the best I can, so here goes. Every time I stick my arm through the cuff, grab the handle on my Anderson straight shaft, and turn the Dual Field on, I swear I can sense/feel some type of power running through my arm. It's not quite a vibration per se', but it feels like I'm holding on to power, like holding the tail of a Tiger. It would be like if you go and sit on a moped, then get off and walk over to a Harley and sit on the Harley while the engine's idling. Sitting on the moped, you felt nothing, but sitting on that Harley, you know you've got power underneath you, and you can feel that power vibrating throughout your body. It's kinda like that, like I'm sensing and feeling the pulses transmitting from the coil, and the power the PI is putting out.

I know there's more powerful PI's, but the Dual Field ain't no slouch, it's a very good PI and like my Sov, detects deeper than I sometimes feel like digging, lol. But I don't feel this power sensation thing with my Sov or any other detector, but no lie, every time I grab the DF and start swinging, it feels like something's inside the PI that's trying to bust out and I'm holding it back. It's a very cool feeling but a bit strange at the same time. But that feeling that I get through my arm, whatever it is, gives me a very high level of confidence with the Dual Field.

Yes sir God bless every day. I’m not far behind so get out there and keep moving. Keep Digging and keep recovering the cheddar!!
I had a moped in high school, but I never owned a Harley😂🏴‍☠️👍🏻 yes I can feel the force!😊

What a beauty of a ring. She cleaned up nicely too.
Thank you, but all gold yellow cheddar rings are beautiful in my opinion🤩😁🤗😜
