Relic Hunting
I have found just three buckles in years of relic hunting. And 2 were found in the last 8 days. I was blown away. Three of us had hunted hard all day, and found a few bullets, frags, a bayonet scabbard tip, a piece of an Indian hand ax and an eagle button. They say a great find is always at the START or END of the day. It was true this time. We hit the woods at about 10 AM. Just after 7 PM, worn out, I had turned in the direction of the truck. I was hitting barbed wire and some unidentifiable iron junk, but I got a good hit. Sounded like a medium depth bullet on the Tesoro Tejon. An inch in, I hit a holly root as big as my wrist. Almost too tired to cut it, but out came the folding saw and I did. Signal still there, but not screaming like a buckle usually does. I scratch around with fingers but feel nothing. Took a shovel full of dirt out, and then another. Withdrawing the shovel, a deep green oval flopped into the hole. Couldn't have been more than 6" deep. I suspect it was on it's side, and perhaps that accounts for the "average" signal I got. At the end of an "OK" hunt, that was the LAST thing I expected! I didn't even touch it. I just sat there looking at it going, "I can't BELIEVE this." And I couldn't. Ten months ago, I wondered if I would ever find a buckle. This is my third one. All U.S., all in great shape, two with leather, didn'tt touch any with the digger (WHAT?!!) but this is my first with arrowhead hooks. I am feeling incredibly blessed and a tad lucky! here's a short (Under 2 minutes) vid. Keep swinging that coil - they're still out there!

PW, You must be living right! Terrific Recoveries! You might want to go and buy a lottery ticket......

Yeah, no kidding. I was shocked to see this one. My brother-in-law used to say, "The lottery is a tax on the statistically challenged," but this WOULD be the time to try my luck!

Thanks everybody for the comments. I really enjoy having people to share my finds with. Most people go "Oh. Uh-huh. Well isn't that nice?"

Old Dude: Only thing I'm doing is - hunting myself to DEATH! never give up, and all that!

Quindy - Man, I don't have any pastures to HUNT. All I've got is woods. Hopefully some fields this fall when the crops are harvested.

DigIron - You know, you're absolutely RIGHT. I realize a slow day for us, would be a thrill for guys who don't have a CW site within 500 miles. We've just gotten spoiled over the last 30 years, nowadays, brass is just few and far between. CMDDawg and Scrappy, I sent you a PM. My Tejon is "Beep and Dig".

Gordan - Yep. I can't even IMAGINE. BuckleBoy - As a pistol! Hope it lasts long enough to someday pull a CONFEDERATE buckle. But I know that, in the words of Jed Clampette - "That's a long shot with a limb in the way!"

Great buckle man:occasion14:

Nice job bud. What a way to end the day. That buckle is in nice shape.

sweet find. congrats!

Nice find on the Buckle, they don't come often.. I've found 3 US buckles in the past 30 years. My brother also found one.

John in Va..

CONGRATS, love the beautiful green patina...the outside rim seems to be lighter and it just sets off the color of the buckle...just awesome
