Trying to get comments and my decision making easier on using a P.I. detector on land and fresh/salt water. What do you guys like for a brand and why and/or why not? :icon_scratch:

I live in NM and planning for outings to the gulf coast and west coast in the near future, but I'd also want to try in nearby ghost towns, vacant lots, etc. with a P.I. detector.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you probably know u have no disc. on a regular pulse. however the eric foster ones are hot on our usa nickels and gold items. The TDI of whites has disc on it (grn bal) to get rid of some iron and tinfoil and pulltabs. The detector pro I only used a short time so I don't think it has any disc on it. The pulse is the way to go if beach hunting in salt water however the Minelab vlf water detector works well in salt water. most of the time BUT will not see small chains The hottest one for GOLD items in water in my opinion is a Eric Foster however he doesnt make them anymore and the Whites takes its place. The foster pulse was good depth on gold but average depth on usa coins. My choice would be a whites TDI or TDI small box. I have read the small box whites pulse isn't as good as the big box whites one and not as deep as the big box one. As i've only used 4 types 2 Eric Foster, Detector pro, and Whites, (which is a eric foster one), A regular pulse might be deeper but when u get tired of 1,000 bobby pins etc on the beach a pulse with disc has it's merrits. As far as gold hunting the pulse has its good side and bad side but so does a vlf detector in gold country ask Reg about that side of it. jmho

There only two really deep.deep PI detectors out there , the sea hunter by Garrett and the other, well I can't tell you that but, it go's deeper than my sea hunterand that is my advantage over everyone in my area.

T C,Ron said a mouthful, the SeaHunter is DEEP,but,as I say,you gotta dig the TRASH to get the CASH,and that's a LOT of diggin! God Bless Chris

Ron, You are always finding great stuff, and certainly a lot more than I have found this year...... I appreciate your posts and figured you had a edge of some sort over your competition, which isn't me since I live on the east coast. What would you estimate to be the deepest gold ring you have found? For me, my Whites dual field may have a repeatable signal on a 5g, 14k gold ring at about 11". It is a faint but repeatable signal that I might or might not notice. At about 9" - 10" the signal is very clear.

I dug this ring at 18" with my TS DSCF0021 (640x256).webp

Tesoro Sand Shark the other PI.

Whites Dual Field!! It will get Gold stud earings, I have found gold chains, got many gold rings in the 16-18 inch range...NO ONE BEATS WHITES SERVICE!!! IT'S MADE IN THE USA!!!

Hi TC! In Arizona, I have always used Minelab SD and GPX pulse induction detectors in the goldfields. For hunting in dry conditions, or for gold "nuggetshooting," Minelab PI technology is the undisputed king - END of story.

On the beach, you have a lot of PI choices. You can start with a Tesoro Sand Shark with an 8" coil, at $600.00 and just go up from there. The Whites Dual Field; Garrett Seahunter and Infinium cost a more than the Tesoro, but they are ALL about the same performance wise with very little difference in depth capabilities. I have used the Sand Shark in the ocean and in the desert. I'll stay with my Minelab in the desert, and let my Tesoro run wild on the beach. One machine will NOT do it all - In my Never Humble opinion. Good Luck!

Thanks to all that replied and Thanks Terry. I do like the Tesoro line. But you were the only one mentioning of just the cost of the Garrett's Infinium. Has anyone out there have any experience with the Infinium? I heard or read that it does pretty good on land and water. True or not true?

Like to hear from anyone using one.

Thanks again,

TC-NM
