Well, our reservations for Pipsico got lost in the shuffle along the way, but have no fear, one of our TNet members was able to find us a place and the weekend was NOT a bust! Thanks Chris, for your research and finding us a spot. I am very sorry that things fell through, but we will go there in March! :)

Anyways, I wanted to post some pics of an item(s) some of the group found. I'm sorry, I can't remember who found them all (I know Eric found two I believe) and I will let them tell you the distance from where they each found them. I know they were up front at the Manor House. (all 12 were found!)

We are wondering if these were part of a sun dial? What do you think? Thanks for any input! ;)
HH,
Annmarie (of RonandAnn)

What a neat grouping of goodies there! That looks like a fun hunt! As big as those numerals are, I would say a sundial face is a good guess. I suppose they could have been from the town square clock, But whatever they are, they sure are neat! Just for curiousity sakes, what is their diameter?

I forgot my MD Toolbox, so I did not get measurements...but based on the soda can...the numbers are approx 4-5" in dia.

Trying to search the net...but no luck yet. I found a website where a person made a sundial with rocks for their garden. If this is a sundial set, then the center piece still needs to be found! I can't believe they found ALL 12 pieces!!! ;)

It was a fun weekend, even though our reservations got messed up...Chris found us a good spot, that I was told was not detectable. Guess I should have called them myself instead of listening to someone else and take their word for it! Oh well, live and learn! But it was a fun weekend! ;)

Clock golf? Apparently, it was a popular game in the 20's & 30's. I'd never heard of it, but here's a couple of pics...

Clock golf game is a good suggestion :icon_thumright: The spikes would be to secure in grass/dirt. Would be pretty big spikes to secure in wood.

Pretty neat you got all 12 :hello2: Now how do you play clock golf :-\

I found the rules in a Google book but could not copy the text out of it... It is just a version of miniature golf.

The hole/cup is placed inside the "clock circle" which can be from 15 - 40 feet in diameter. Players take turns from each "hour". The one who holes out in the least number of strokes wins.

Simple, inexpensive, and entertaining.

Matt,

You may have solved it... :headbang: :icon_thumright: maybe that explains why they were found in different locations! Cool Beans! Will have to let Ranger Matt know about that! ;) and if Clock Golf, there may be 6 more numbers out there to find!! Or maybe not...as I only see 12 in the photo.

CLOCK GOLF
What does clock golf mean?
1. a form of golf in which you putt from positions arranged on the circumference of a circle around the hole.

Meaning: A form of golf in which you putt from positions arranged on the circumference of a circle around the hole. Hypernyms ("clock golf" is a kind of...):golf; golf game (a game played on a large open course with 9 or 18 holes; the object is use as few strokes as possible in playing all the holes)

Annmarie

PS: Matt....found this...is this what you found?

That is a very surprising find, never heard of such a thing before! I think since all twelve are there, maybe they could be mounted for a display on a large frame or even put outside as a display, it would be a shame to separate the numbers and or not ever come up with some way of displaying them.

Hmmmmn, maybe your first guess could be something to make it be useful for , an sundial, got the numbers, just need a dial. :tongue3:

Nice What is it, love when they are solved and it is something not really heard of before by vast majority.............

This (these  ) is one of the sort of finds - and ID's - that help make TNet so incredibly interesting.
Well Done everyone involved :headbang: :notworthy:

Don

Don, et al,

These items were found during a group hunt on an historic property called Eastover on the James River across from Jamestown, VA. They stayed on the property with most of the other finds we dug on the weekend. Even though these are not very old compared to the property (which dates to the 1650's), I'm sure they will be displayed at the manor house and labelled as "Clock Golf".

THanks BCH!!! However, I did not find them...but a few members from TNet did that I detect and camp with! They did a great job, especially in finding ALL 12!!! DCMatt did a great job identifying them, who also detects and camps with us!

Yes, thank you for the instructions...I could not remember how to do it! LOL ;)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend...now that our power is back on the Nor'easterner is nearly out of our area...it should be here too!
