Parts source for old Bountyhunter units?

Does anyone know of a place that specializes is parts for older models? I have a BH III (PNI, Phoenix, AZ) 197x's model. I am missing the square plastic lens that goes over the meter. Suggestions, links, words of encouragement? TIA.

Why not give First Texas a call as they make the BH.

There's no connection between First Texas Products and the BH's of the 1970's era, other than the trademark "Bounty Hunter". No schematics, no spare parts.

As I see it, there are two ways to do the repair.

1. Find another oldie that uses the same meter, and sacrifice that one to fix the one you've already got. Finding that other oldie to sacrifice may be tough, but if your objective is to restore a historical relic to museum condition, that's what you'll probably have to do.

2. Make your own cover from transparent plastic and glue (for example from a hobby shop that caters to model airplane enthusiasts). It won't be pretty but at least should provide protection for the delicate meter movement. If you're good working with your hands, you can probably do this for less than $15. Of course at that point all you've got is a 1970's BH, good in its day I suppose.

If you think you want to get into metal detecting as a hobby, you'll be a lot better off putting the stone age BH back in the garage, and getting a modern much more user friendly entry level unit. We have models that normally retail in the low $100 range or even less. The Tracker IV (TK4) is popular and there are lots of posts about it in this forum.
