✅ SOLVED Patent Date help

I found a suspender clip or something along that line that has a Sept. 2nd 1856 patent date on it. Can anyone help me correctly ID it.
In the picture it is the piece under the large button that is left of the penny.

Because you only had the date, and not the patent number, I searched through every US patent issued on Sept. 2, 1856. (Over 30 were issued on that date.) The closest match I can find for your "buckle" is patent #15,666, which is also for a buckle...but it only somewhat resembles yours, having an oval-shaped slot but no curved tongue. I double checked the date and it is definitely Sep. 2nd 1856. Thank you for your help.

I'm wondering now if it might go to a bra rather than suspenders, having had some of these show up in image searches, but couldn't find a close-up of the hardware. However I must now go to sleep... Maybe it'll come to me in my dreams.

That looks just like mine except i am missing the part with the two tongues. Everyone there agreed it is a suspender buckle so I am going to go with that and give this post a green check. Thanks for the help.
