🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Peculiar rock- natural?

Hi All,

I came across this rock in a creek that has both native American and pioneer history. It just stood out to me and am wondering if it is natural or has been worked for some purpose? Or am I reading too much into it?

Those square ends and straight sides sure make it stand out! On pieces I find that have suspect shape but are made of rock not suitable for flaking I look for "pecking" marks. If present, they suggest human shaping. That's not definitive, because the marks may have worn or been smoothed off by hand using another rock. But if they are there, it is a good indication of human shaping.

NA tools have modern day equivalents.... what do you see this used as?

That looks like limestone to me. Never used for NA tools. Rarely used for making pipes. The striations look like marks made by the glacier and are common on glacial erratics.

Thanks for the feedback. That makes sense. I know others have found NA artifacts along this creek so I'll just have to keep me eyes out for something legit (and not limestone!).
