Can't we all just agree or agree to disagree that in modern vernacular penny and cent are synonymous?

The US Mint has no problem using the term penny....

U.S. Mint Online Product Catalog

Neither does the US Congress

Presidential $1 coin act of 2005 - "SEC. 304. NUMISMATIC PENNIES WITH THE SAME METALLIC CONTENT
AS THE 1909 PENNY."

Cent may be the proper term, but since colonial times it has been called the penny. The terms are interchangeable. Can we leave it at that?

Next someone on here is going to admonish the use of "dollar bill" and say no, it's "federal reserve note, it say's it right on it!"

Anyways, thats my two pennies.......

good time to bump this!

Not really when there is a 5 page long argument right next to this one.

Seriously this debate is worse than Star Trek geeks at a convention.

Some of you probably ARE Star Trek geeks that go to conventions, and this just spilled over.

Affirmative on the spillover

And I think it was fine when Greedo didn't shoot first in Star Wars, but I don't care if it's a penny or a cent. The technical term is one cent but they're interchangeable in society. That's just my two fractional denominations.

First we have people giving other a hard time over using the word penny, now people are bashing Trekkies? What has this world come to?

For the record I hate Star Trek

This was amuzing but getting old now and per the rules, we need to keep on topic and this is a treasure hunting site not a collector site. It was amusing at first since I get on ever month or so, I missed this one but got in the action on the other one but....geez this is getting old. I don't know why people are still arguing. They are both a cent and a penny....pics prove it. Can we move on to the hunt please:dontknow:

PENNY PENNY PENNY AND I'LL NEVER SAY CENT!!! Time to drop this ludicrous discussion. Nobody else except for the few penny policeman care about this at all. As long as we all know what they mean then who cares. To each his own. Live and let live people!!!

Guys... calm down, this is a heated debate that will not get anywhere any time soon...
The physical coin says "one cent"...
The roll says "50c pennies"...
the box says "$25 pennies"...

Try not to get too excited over this subject... it's not worth getting banned over for "talking down" on somebody.

EDIT: WHOOPS first and foremost I scimmed through what Buff wrote, and I did not notice he wrote physical coin at first, other wise I would not have made this reply. I still find it somewhat humorous, and as long as buff does not mind, I'll leave it as is without re-editing it/deleting it for the fun of reading it for all.

The "box" and the "roll" don't count, I can write whatever I want on a box and that don't make it correct. WHAT MATTERS IS what it says on the coin and it does in fact have the word CENT stamped in it, and the word "penny" is not found on the coin

Case closed.

I probably shouldn't say this but I can't help myself. Some navy guys would call that a ship.

Looks like a barge or a freighter to me.

I would call it a ship. Yet I don't feel annoyed that you would call it a freighter and I can always learn something. Why do people get so angry about pennies/cents, when it provides knowledge? Why can't people accept the fact it is a cent? If you want to be wrong and not call it a cent, go ahead and do it. I will personally not care, there is free speech.
