Went out again yesterday and was fortunate to dig another 3 Civil War buttons! 2 of them being cuff state staff buttons and 1 another Eagle button. The state buttons are Pennsylvania and New York. I don't think the eagle button is another "R" but it was found 10 feet from the other one. The Pennsylvania cuff button is a great find as there was only one unit camped here in from the Second Brigade under Brigadier General Fitz John Porter and that was the 62nd Pennsylvania. I only know of 1 other Pennsylvania button being dug out of this camp and that button was a rare one. It was a coat button with the eagle staff design and the word FENCIBLES written beneath it! Only one of these buttons I have ever known to be dug and my friend found it minutes before I would have! I was happy for him though. Now I have one of my own! Besides the buttons I found a pack hook, a lone musket ball, 4 bucky balls , and a 1858 Flying Indian Head Penny. I'm digging every little beep I can hear as you can tell by the number of bucky balls and percussion caps I am digging. I will post a picture of the cleaned buttons up later. Gonna try and get out again tomorrow! Just finished cleaning my buttons. The eagle button is in fact an officers Infantry button with the "I" highlighted by gold gilt perfectly. And the cuff button IS a Pennsylvania state seal with a push but no ground action and a beautiful stand out shank! These buttons are quite rare! I will always remember this button as my Pennsylvania Labor Day find!!!
