Petrified Roses

Petrified Roses, or (Rose Rocks) as they are known locally, are the official state rock of OK, they are found in a band from KS, to TX, but the better ones are found near Noble
OK, they have a Rose Rock festival each year. (central ok)
Their description is, (Aggregates or clusters of tabular
crystals of barite, which forms in sandstones, enclosing the
sandy matrix within the crystals).
Local legend says they are tears of the Cherokees, when they
came over the (Trail of Tears)
We have been there a couple of times, on buying, & hunting,
trips, but it helps to know some local folks.

Thanks, they are long lasting, but if left out in
the weather, they will eventually lost some of their
shape, (sandy material).

BTW, I'm home, got some rocks heading your way, soon as I get them in the mail.... had to haul 'em back like a pack mule, tried to mail them on post, but the sarge wouldnt let me. said no rocks, soil, foliage etc,etc. I tried to explain they were not merely rocks, but part of a systematic collection. he wasnt buying it.
