Petrified Wood Artifacts In NE/NC U.S.

I’ve found six pieces of petrified wood while hunting artifacts. None of the pieces show signs of knapping but the material seems fit for tool production.

Feel free to add links to articles, photos of petrified wood artifacts, and photos of petrified wood examples. There isn’t much info on this lithic tool source in the Northeast.

As far as I know I have never found anything made from Petrified Wood. I have a few pieces of it that I have found over the years but I don't have any pictures of them. I know the guys in east Texas and the surrounding areas find Petrified Wood and Petrified Palmwood artifacts and Points all the time and they are really cool looking. I just sent a guy some money so he could ship me some of the material and when I get it I'll post some pictures.

I agree with both of you. The material was here I wonder why we have not seen any usage of it in these parts. Maybe there was an abundance of the other materials that deterred them from usage, or maybe they were not as knowledged as their western neighbors were. Who knows but those petrified pieces out west are real nice.........Just a thought...............GTP

I've never found any Pet wood but, I do have a couple of Petrified Palmwood from TX.

iv'e found stuff made from PW
and also white PW
mainly scrapers and arrow points
you can see some on some of the posts i made

i believe there are a few petrified wood points here
the one in the center
the pelican lake top row, 5th from the right end
maybe a couple others but not sure

I find a few point's and a few other artifacts made from petrified wood from time to time but not that many in my part of the state most of the stuff around here is made out of chert or flint. Steve that is a nice looking frame of points.
