Petrified Wood Find - Nice Cut

BurntBear · Jul 17, 2014

The petrified wood in this area is awesome stuff! I made a rough cut to begin polishing. I found about 10 pieces this size and bigger in a 10'x10' area along the creek bed.

nice piece, hope to see it polished! I'm amazed at the variety of petrified wood - all 50 states are supposed to have some, and they sure are fun to find!!

Looks that you have a good source of materials there. You may want to check and see if there are any laws prohibiting collection. Otherwise have at it.

Thanks DDancer, I've checked into that as well.

In case anyone was wondering, all of the above photos are the same specimen.

I have a really nice chunk of petrified wood somewhere around here. I believe it weighs around 10 pounds or more and I bet it would make some nice cabs and slabs. I have other smaller pieces as well that are agatized, not to just find all of them. LOL!!
