65 degrees today in Missouri and beautiful digging! Was able to get a short hunt in at an old homesite lot in a small town near here......started digging pottery and stoneware shards,my standard horseshoe find, a tiny cork bottle and then......out popped the eagle..... :icon_queen:

Cool find Gypsy.
If you turn it over and take a picture of the bottom for us would that be the same a "flipping the bird"? :icon_scratch: ;D :tongue3:
Congrats,
Doug

Typical "Hoosier Boozer" humor... ;D

Great find Gypsy! Glad to hear you had that wonderful weather. The wind finally stopped blowing it's a$$ off here this morning. Keep on swingin'...

I really like the eagle. Never seen one like it. Happy detecting.

Thanks everyone. Here is a pic of the Eagles butt...LOL....After many years of living in Wisconsin ,this digging in January is a dream come true....

The eagle was found about three hundred feet from the first log school house in the town I am hunting...there is a small church there now that was built in 1850
There is a small hole in the bottom, but no threads in it....no hallmark or any identifying mark on the bottom.....

The snow covered yard is my moms farm in Northern Wisconsin where we spent the holidays....Christmas morning I looked out the front window and twenty turkeys had gathered under the pines for breakfast

Really like the Eagle Gypsy, thats a cool find.Good you can still get out, I think our last hunt for awhile was yesterday. :( HB

Neat find, Gypsy  Do you think it was attached to a small American flag at one time? That's what I'm thinking.

 RR

Nope, I think more like a pincushion. This Sewing Bird dates mid. 1800s.

I think IP may have identified it, sure looks like it could have been used for the same thing! I was going to ask you Gypsy how much you missed the "nice" Wisconsin" winters and I can see you already commented on that! Best time of year to hunt is in winter and early spring if you live in an area that does not become a frozen tundra! :D

I would like to think it was a sewing bird...because that would make me happy :icon_queen:....but I dont think it is....most sewing birds have a open beak or tail in order to hold the material (like a third hand for the seamstress)
It has neither

Cool looking eagle. That will look really nice in a display case.

65 degrees..... Man, I am soooooo jealous!!!

Congrats...

If you google image search you will see the majority do not have a beak which opens to hold material.

UUh Gypsy it is not legal to capture eagles please send to me so I can release it. Congrats on your find. It killed me to not be able to hunt in that great weather we had yesterday. Wind blowing hard today and 23 degrees.

Thanks IP...I really wish I could say I think it is one....but all the sewing birds I see on google...have a tail that when pinched together opens the beak to clasp the,material...
I dont see what the point of having a sewing bird would be if its tail or beak didnt grasp the material....
